Here are two patients who posted their issues on the breast.com.au forum
I am 32 yrs of age and a mother of 4 and have finished having kids. For as long as I can remember I have had large breasts currently wearing 18 G and I have reached the point of desperation. I type this while crying cause I have just had enough. I Suffer a lot of back pain as well as neck pain, I have groves in my shoulder from my bra straps and at the moment have a rash under my breasts (just applied my sons nappy rash cream to soothe it) not to mention the smell of the sweat. Growing up I was never able to participate in activities cause I was to embarrassed to run or jump and friends used to call me black eyed cos if I ran they would bounce so much eventually I just stopped joining in. What makes it even worse now I cant share fun activities with my kids, and to top that off I hate getting undressed I front of my husband even during intimate time I still have a top on. I am desperate to get a reduction but being a full time carer for my elderly mother I am not working and just dont have the funds, I have private health insurance been paying for years hoping 1 day I can afford it but after 10 yrs I still cant. Please help me my desperation has taken its toll with this desperation has come depression

Hi, You sound like a perfect candidate for a breast reduction. A breast reduction procedure will not only reduce the weight of your breasts (and so help with your neck and back pain), it will also improve the shape of your breasts (by putting the breast tissue back up on the chest where it belongs), By eliminating the “sagging” (or “ptosis”) of the breast, the rash in the fold underneath tends to resolve itself. A breast reduction procedure will make it easier for you to find clothes that fit properly and exercise. Please contact your nearest friendly plastic surgeon to get an idea on costs. Like with all things, it pays to shop around. I hope this helps.
Here was another woman’s story:
Hi I’m needing advice as soon as possible. I’m 24 years old 153cm tall with 12HH bra size due to having a small frame this is beginning to take its toll on my body, severe pain daily. Ranging from headaches, back pain to shoulder and neck pain. I started puberty early by the age of 12 I was already in a D cup bra. So I’ve been suffering this pain for years but in the last month I’ve been in tears every day as my breast have grown again. So emotionally it’s taking its toll on me too. I’ve tried weight loss I lost 25kg and while losing weight my breast continued to grow. So I’m wanting advice on costs, I’m not the richest of people so I’ve decided to take up private health insurance, do I have to wait 12 months before surgery of getting insured? Otherwise do people offer payment plans or do i have to pay full costs for surgery 🙁 on top of this I’m getting married in march 2014 so funds are very tight at the moment advice is welcome please

Hi, I am sorry to hear of the problems you’ve been having. It sounds like you are the perfect candidate for a breast reduction procedure. By removing the extra weight from your breasts, your shoulder and neck pain should improve. Also, as you said you have HH cup breasts, most likely you have breasts that “sag” – this is called “ptosis”. A breast reduction procedure will help put your breasts tissue back up on the chest where it belongs. In short, a breast reduction not only corrects the size of your breasts, it also improves the shape as well. The out of pocket expense associated with a breast reduction varies from surgeon to surgeon and state to state. Bring in a private health fund will greatly assist you with the cost – the health insurance fund will generally cover the costs of the hospital stay as well as help cover the cost of the surgeon and anaesthetist. Call the breast.com.au team to find some phone numbers of some plastic surgeons in your area to give you an idea of expense. Many funds do have a waiting time for certain procedures. When it comes to health funds,as with all things, it pays to shop around. Good luck with it all and I hope this helps.
