Breast Implant Profiles
Of the cosmetic plastic surgery procedures performed by A/Prof Damian Marucci, none is more customisable than breast augmentation. At his Kogarah plastic surgery practice, Dr. Marucci guides his patients through the many important decisions they must make before undergoing the procedure, all of which will impact their results to varying degrees. Among the factors that can most profoundly influence the aesthetic outcome of breast augmentation is the profile of the breast implants.
In discussing breast implant profiles during consultations at his Kogarah office, A/Prof Damian Marucci explains how different profiles will affect a patient’s appearance and makes a recommendation based on her body frame and cosmetic goals. He carefully explains the possible benefits and disadvantages of each option so that the patient can make a confident decision about which breast implant profile is best suited to her unique case.
What is a “breast implant profile”?
The phrase “breast implant profile” refers to the angle at which an implant projects from a woman’s chest after it has been surgically placed. Many patients arrive at the initial consultation thinking of breast implants only in terms of shape and size. However, the profile of the breast implant can have an equally important effect on the overall result that she achieves through breast augmentation at our Kogarah plastic surgery practice.
What are a patient’s breast implant profile options?
A patient has three basic breast implant profile options:
- Low: Low profile breast implants tend to produce the most natural-looking results for most women. This is because they resemble how most natural breasts – especially larger breasts – project from the chest. Low profile breast implants are not particularly perky; then again, in nature, most large breasts are not perky, either. If you have a wider body frame and want to enhance your breasts in a manner that complements your natural shape, then low profile breast implants may be the ideal option for you. Likewise, if you want to add volume to your breasts without significantly altering their natural projection, you may wish to consider low profile breast implants.
- Moderate: Moderate profile breast implants are often a good choice for women who want to strike a balance between the natural-looking results of low profile breast implants and the “wow” factor associated with high profile breast implants. Moderate profile breast implants add fullness to the bust line without creating an excessively artificial look.
- High: High profile breast implants are probably what you visualise when you think of those gravity-defying, no-these-aren’t-real and no-I-don’t-care-who-knows breast implants. These implants create full, round breasts with nipples that project at an upward angle. Many women enter consultations believing that this is the type of implant that they want, but leave settling on moderate or even low profile implants. Although high profile breast implants can be very attractive, they are best suited to women whose goal is to have breasts that project unnaturally high off of their chests.
