The University of New South Wales Surgical Society (UNSW SurgSoc) is an educational body that was formed in 2009. The 5 key aims of the organisation are:
- to promote surgery as a possible career choice for medical students
- to facilitate the learning of basic surgical skills and surgical anatomy
- to provide practical exposure to surgical subspecialties
- to provide access to information about surgical careers, and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeon’s Surgical Education and Training (SET) Program
- to establish a forum where professional relationships between students and surgeons can develop through strong a network between current and former students
The society is based in Sydney and administered by medical students passionate about surgery from UNSW. Membership is free to students studying medicine at UNSW in Sydney, Australia, and regularly have attendance from past students who have gone on to become successful doctors and surgeons.
