How do you know if you need a breast lift or breast implants (or both)?
Plastic surgeon for breasts in Sydney
Breast augmentation with implants and breast lifts are both procedures that can help to address a patient’s dissatisfaction with how her breasts look. In some cases, women have just one of these procedures, while others choose to have both at the same time. It can be somewhat challenging to know whether you need a breast lift, a breast augmentation, or both. Here are A/Prof Marucci’s tips for how to decide on which procedure would be most likely to meet your goals for your appearance.
Are you happy with your breast shape but not the size?
For some women, the shape of their breasts is not a concern. They wish that their breasts were bigger, but they’re satisfied with the overall shape. In this situation, breast augmentation is the most likely to give a satisfying result.
In a breast augmentation, A/Prof Marucci adds volume to the breasts using implants, which can be placed in a few different ways. Although adding volume will obviously have some impact on the shape of your breasts, it will not really do anything to address the sagging or drooping of tissue. This procedure may be right for you if your main concern is size.
Are you happy with how your breasts look in a bra but not out of one?
For other women, they feel happy with how their breasts look in a bra. The size is satisfying to them at that point. However, when they take off the bra, their breasts droop down against the chest wall. The breasts may look somewhat smaller when they’re drooping down, but if you’re happy with the size of the breasts in a bra, then adding more volume isn’t likely to do much for you. Instead, a breast lift would be more likely to give you the results that you want.
In a breast lift, A/Prof Marucci removes excess sagging skin and other tissues from the breasts and lifts them back up into their proper position on the chest wall. This procedure might make your breasts look somewhat larger – the way they used to look when supported in a bra. However, the overall volume won’t actually be any larger, it will just be distributed differently.
Are you unhappy with both the shape and the size?
If you’re unhappy with both the shape and the size of your breasts, then it’s also possible to combine both a breast augmentation and a breast lift. Both can be done as part of the same overall surgical procedure so that you only need to plan for one surgery and recovery period. This may work well for patients who are happier with the shape of their breasts in a bra than out of one, but who also feel that their breasts are too small even in the bra.
