Damian Marucci Named Associate Professor at the University of Sydney
Sydney, November 19, 2018 — Damian Marucci, MBBS, PhD, FRACS, was recently awarded the title of Associate Professor from the University of Sydney. The widely regarded specialist plastic surgeon and USYD alumni is pleased to announce he will be helping to shape the minds of medical students and junior doctors.

I have completed all my degrees through the University of Sydney, and to now be recognised by the world-renowned institution gives me great satisfaction. Thank you to all the doctors and professors who have taught me over the years. Also, thank you to my family, who shares in this with me,” he said.
A/Prof Marucci joins the faculty of the oldest university in Australia, which was recently ranked the 31st best university in the world. Its medical school was ranked 18th best in the world.
Accomplished Academic Mind to Enrich Students’ Medical Education
Continuing medical education has been a priority of A/Prof Marucci’s for quite some time. He has been widely published in plastic surgery literature and regularly presents at national and international meetings. He is now an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Sydney
In 2007, he started the Plastic Surgery Journal Club at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. The club reviews significant current and historical plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive scientific papers, and makes their presentations and discussions available in podcast form via free iTunes downloads.

Damian Marucci earned degrees in Medicine, Surgery and Arts from the University of Sydney in 1994. He is one of only a few specialist plastic surgeons to earn a PhD in Surgery from the University of Sydney.
After completing plastic surgery training, he undertook a fellowship training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Oxford Plastic Surgery Unit in England, and a fellowship program in craniofacial surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London. He was then awarded the Mentor International Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship in London, working under the tutelage of world-renowned plastic surgeon Mr Barry Jones at the King Edward VII Hospital.
The highly trained surgeon opened the doors to his own private plastic and reconstructive surgery practice in Sydney in 2007. He now serves patients from clinics in Kogarah and Miranda, and has appointments at St. George Hospital, St. George Private Hospital, the Aesthetic Day Surgery (where he is a Director) and the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. His particular areas of interest include cosmetic surgery of the face and breast as well as major reconstructive surgery after breast cancer, skin cancer, head and neck cancer and facial trauma. He also performs lower limb reconstruction after trauma.
He has volunteered on surgical missions with organizations such as Interplast and Medecins Sans Frontieres.
He is one of 500 doctors worldwide to receive the RealSelf 500 Award.
